Born in Bristol England, author and illustrator Brenda V. Northeast was two when her parents migrated to Australia.
There they spent two years touring the outback while her father did handyman carpentry at different sheep and cattle stations along the way. Northeast remembers many a night sleeping "under the blankets of a star-filled sky, surrounded by the sounds of the outback." At that early age she recalled imitating those sounds of dingoes, crows, and kangaroos.
Later, after her parents separated, she and her brothers moved to New Zealand with their grandparents, where she spent most of her growing-up years. At the age of nineteen, married and with two children, she returned to Australia.
Northeast began her career in illustrating and writing in 1993. To date she has produced two picture books introducing children to "Art Appreciation."
One of those, For the Love of Vincent is about Vincent Van Gogh, represented in Northeast's story by a delightful bear named Vincent van Bear.
The second book, For the Love of Auguste is personalized by Bearre Auguste as he introduces us to the life and the art of Renoir.
These books are selling in New Zealand and France as well as Australia. Northeast is presently researching the life of Monet for a similar effect.
|
Northeast concluded: "I would like very much to see my books in animation, and the characters as soft toys. I particularly would love to see my books sold throughout the United States of America. |
I have thoroughly enjoyed creating the first two books and the joy, excitement and enthusiasm that they have brought to so many 'children' of all ages.
There will be more creations as I delve into the hidden treasures I am unlocking from within myself.
